three membership categories are Individual, Corporate and Student. The
Society has approximately 100 individual members and 50 student members
at present.
Membership
Benefits
Close
links between academia, regulators and industry at a national level
is one of the advantages of the Society.
Membership
of IST also provides contact with fellow toxicologiest from Europe and
beyond through membership of the European Societies of Toxicology (EUROTOX)
and the International Union of Toxicology (IUTOX).
The
Society offers reduced rates for IST activities, and for EUROTOX and
IUTOX conferences.
Members
are also able to avail of discounted rates for several toxicology journals.
A
Newsletter to keep abreast of IST and other toxicological news.
Registration
of Toxicologists
The
recognition and harmonisation of training of toxicologists is a pan-European
problem. EUROTOX, through its Task Force on Registration, has reviewed
the needs at a supranational level for registration/accreditationation
of European toxicologists, and has developed schemes as models for National
Societies. IST has considered the existing schemees, and is at the planning
stages of developing a National Register.
Interaction
with regulatory bodies
Through
these contacts with EUROTOX, the Society can provide advice and positions
on key issues in toxicology at a European level. In addition, feedback
giving an Irish standpoint can be expressed. This proactive position
on key issues related to the science of toxicology and to toxicologies
in Europe is essential.
