Irish Registry of Toxicologists (IRT)
“Let us tenderly and kindly cherish, therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.” - John Adams
What is the IRT?
The Irish Register of Toxicologists was established in response to the need for international harmonisation and mutual recognition of qualifications
in toxicology as set out by EuroTox in its charter for a EuroTox Registered Toxicologist. This section of the website is devoted to applications to
become a member of the Irish Registry of Toxicologists. Applicants may either download a PDF document and fill in the appropriate fields, print and then
post to the specified address or fill in details online and submit electronically.
Members of the Irish Register of Toxicologists gain automatic membership of the EUROTOX Register of Toxicologists. The attainment of registration may be seen as a significant milestone in a career in toxicology as well as being desirable for career progression. To this end it is intended that the Register fosters competence in practice and makes publicly available authoritative sources of information on toxicological matters.
Suitable applicants for registration will have demonstrated a high standard of critical ability and communication skills, for example by authorship of published papers and/or reports. Once registered, a toxicologist must re-affirm their registration credentials and suitability on the basis of a 5-yearly review which takes into account continuing education and practice in toxicology.
